Free travel on motorways ahead of June 25 elections

Vehicle traffic on all toll highways will be free, without tolls, from the day before the election until 8 am the next day.

Residents of Greece (as well as guests, by the way) will be able to cross all highways of the country free of chargeto make it easier for you to travel during the parliamentary elections on Sunday 25 June 2023.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport issued an ordinance on the free passage of cars and two-wheeled vehicles on all motorways, in connection with the parliamentary elections, as follows:

For voters from 00:00 Saturday 24 June 2023 (midnight Friday to Saturday) until 08:00 Monday 26 June 2023.

For court representatives, free travel is valid from 10:00 a.m. Thursday 22 June 2023 until 24:00 p.m. Monday 26 June 2023. Free travel will be subject to the presentation of a document of appointment of a legal representative and a police officer’s identity card.

HELLASTRON, on behalf of its members, announces that in Attiki Odos, Olympia Odos, Nea Odos and Central Greece Odos, Morea Motorway, Egnatia Odos, Aegean Motorway and Rio-Antirrio Bridge, the passage of vehicles of categories 1 and 2 (cars and two-wheelers) through toll booths will be free. For vehicles of other categories (buses and trucks), which are not covered by the above provision, the fare will be collected in the usual way (electronic and manual).

How the journey will be

Crossing the lanes with the collector will be carried out as usual, as paid barriers will work. For this reason, drivers you should approach the toll booths at low speed to be able to stop until the collector completes the zero-toll transaction.

Transponder owners can use the contactless payment lanes if they are open, also free. They will have to slow down considerably for the automatic opening of the barrier to proceed smoothly.

In areas where electronic lanes are closed, free travel will be carried out on lanes with a collector.

Drivers will also be informed by variable message signage (VMS), where possible, that they must stop at toll booths.
