Kos: arrest of a 32-year-old Bangladeshi for the kidnapping of a 27-year-old Polish woman

A 32-year-old Bangladeshi citizen has been arrested on the island of Kos as the prime suspect in the disappearance of 27-year-old Polish citizen Anastasia-Patricia Rubinska, who went missing on Monday June 12. The woman worked in a hotel on the island and lived with her friend, also a Polish citizen.

According to local media dimokratiki.gr, the arrest followed statements by witnesses and the collection of video footage from surveillance cameras in the area. An immigrant from Bangladesh, who is a resident of the city of Kos, has been identified and arrested. According to the state broadcaster ERT, the arrested foreigner bought a ticket to leave the island and go abroad, which raised the suspicions of the authorities.

Citing police sources, the website protothema.gr reported that five men from Pakistan and Bangladesh were initially detained. The four are released after they told police they met a young woman in a supermarket who was intoxicated and they suggested she go to their house “until she feels better”. One of the Bangladeshis said that he had sexual intercourse with a Polish woman, after which he left her on the street and left. However, surveillance cameras did not record any movement outside the house.

Woman’s disappearance reported to authorities by her 28-year-old partner

The partner reportedly told authorities that she contacted him by phone at around 10:30 pm on Monday evening and said she was in Marmari, had too much to drink, and that someone would take her to the hotel on a motorbike.

She then sent him her location so he could come pick her up. However, when her partner arrived at the specified location, he did not find her friend. Repeated attempts to contact her were unsuccessful as her cell phone was switched off. At 11:38 p.m., he managed to locate her through the app, the mobile phone was in Tigaki, about 5 km from where she was supposed to be. The woman did not show up for work as she was supposed to on the morning of Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

Alert declared and search operation launched

The search for Anastasia-Patricia Rubinska is in full swing with the participation of the police, the fire department and volunteer groups who are looking for her even using a drone.

Despite the arrest of the suspect, on Friday afternoon Anastasia-Patricia is still listed as missing. Law enforcement officers called the girl’s roommate for questioning to find out if there were any gaps in their data. Police are investigating the possibility of criminal activity, and sources say there are many wells in the area where the girl went missing.
