Barack and Michelle Obama will spend part of their summer vacation on the islands of Paros and Antiparos, where they will be guests at the villa of Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson. The former US president will be in Greece on the occasion of the Nostos conference in Athens.
The mayor of Paros, Markos Kovaios, confirmed the arrival of the former US presidential couple, saying that there is a large mobilization on the island, dozens of US agents and members of the former US President’s bodyguards, and assistance from the Civil Aviation Service.
The local police and coast guard are on full alert.
“Our island is a destination for all sorts of people, up to kings, heads of state and, from what we see now, even world leaders. Right now we don’t know exactly when they will arrive, this is a security issue, but, of course, next week. [Обама] – a useful person for society, a special person. And it is a great joy and honor for us that he will visit our island”Mayor Kovayos told a local publication parianostypos.gr.
Guest at the Hanks-Wilson Villa in Antiparos
Barack and Michelle Obama will be hosted at the villa of Hollywood stars Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson on the nearby island of Antiparos, local media added.
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) announced in February Barack Obama’s attendance at this year’s SNF Nostos conference in June 2023, where the former US President, along with SNF President Andreas Dracopoulos, will discuss ways to strengthen democratic culture and the importance of supporting the next generation of leaders.
The Nostos conference is scheduled for June 21-23. It is not yet known whether the Obamas will spend several days in the Cyclades before or after the conference.
