The rescued migrants spent the night at a specially created site in the port of Kalamata. 30 people were sent to local hospitals.

Ekaterine Tsata, a nurse at the Greek Red Cross regional branch in Kalamata, told APE-MPA that the night passed calmly, and some people hospitalized in the Kalamata hospital have already returned. “During the night they were tired. Mostly psychological problems, and what they are anxiously asking for , is to contact their relatives,” said a doctor at the Kalamata hospital.

“I asked how many people were on the ship, some said about 750. There were mixed opinions about how many children were on board, some said that 50, others – that 100, obviously they didn’t know what was going on in the holds,” the doctor said.

Some send him pictures and details, asking if he has seen the relative they are looking for. At the same time, he constantly receives calls from unknown numbers from countries such as Syria and Pakistan, from people who are worried about the fate of their loved ones.

A doctor from the Kalamata Hospital who spoke to Mega described the moment a refugee approached him and asked him to call his family in Egypt. The doctor then helped him and then asked if he had seen the children on the boat. The refugee told him that he saw children and indeed a large number, about 100.

They haven’t spoken in six days and all he knows is that he left Syria and went to Italy.

Marios from Syria who lives in Cyprus is looking for his nephew. According to him, he was on a fishing boat that left Libya and wanted to get to Italy. He is not among the rescued people who arrived at the port of Kalamata, and he is not in the hospital.
