Electricity bills: subsidy extension

According to the information, subsidies for paying electricity bills have been extended until September 2023.

Although the country is living in “upcoming election mode” with only a few days left before the vote, however, all indications are that subsidies on electricity bills will continue to protect consumers from tariff increases.

In particular, a joint ministerial decision is expected to be adopted, which will provide for the extension until September 30 of the institutional framework adopted in August last year, which expires on July 1, 2023. Government adopted a decision to extend the emergency measures in cases where it is required to protect the population and businesses from price fluctuations in energy markets.

In the next 2-3 months, until September, the pricing mechanism currently in force in the retail electricity sector will continue to be implemented, as well as all relevant provisions of the law (i.e. maintaining basic retail prices, suspending the clause on turning off electricity to persistent defaulters, changing electricity suppliers without penalties, announcement of tariffs on the 20th of the month, as well as a limit on wholesale sales and the introduction of a mechanism for collecting excess profits).
