Residents of Lefkohori: We will not go to the polls, we are constantly robbed

Villagers in the Peloponnese are refusing to go to the polls, citing the fact that crime in their village has reached its limit, while the authorities ignore their complaints.

Residents of Lefkohori in Ilia will refrain from participating in the elections due to the high level of crime that “hit” the area. Villagers say up to 90% of voters will abstain from participating in the May elections and are calling for “drastic measures” to fight crime.

In particular, a resident of Lefkohori, in his statements to the MEGA TV channel, said that “few people will come to the elections, so do not be surprised that here in the village 90% abstain from voting.”

All the windows of houses in the village are barred, the residents feel like they are in a prison and lock their houses early so as not to become victims of theft. People complain that criminals even steal candlesticks from the cemetery.

Residents of Lefkohori Ilia will refrain from participating in the elections because of crime. Crime is deliberately absent from the election agenda so as not to show the inadequacy and incompetence of the ND party, which promised law, order and security in 1919.

“One minute to ten o’clock in the evening, my wife and I were lying in bed. She could not get up because she was chained to the bed, and I – because they held a gun to my head and demanded that I hand over all the gold jewelry that I have. I gave them everything I had, plus 250 euros,” says the villager.

The village headman also fell victim to bandits when he was at the festival. “It was on St. Athanasius, we had a fair here in the square, and I went to see what my second house was. I saw that they broke the door and immediately thought that they would come to me. They came to my first house , broke the door, took away our money, jewelry, took out everything…”, he said.

Alarms and warning signs are installed on houses to see if they can scare off scammers. “We have been robbed countless times,” says one of the villagers. Indeed, attacks on their property are not uncommon, and the residents are now desperate. “They are put in jail, but after a week they are released,” emphasizes the villager. And that is why they unanimously declare in the elections: “We abstain.” “The village will refrain,” they note.

Of course, there is no need to recall the slogan under which the New Democracy came out in 2019, promising law, order and security. But three years have passed, and crime has “overwhelmed” most parts of Greece, mainly due to illegal immigration.

In addition, within days, ND MP Georgios Koumoutsakos said the government was giving money to illegal immigrants “so they don’t turn into desperate criminals.” As experience has shown, this did not help much.

It is worth noting that a similar situation occurs throughout Greece. In areas where the authorities compactly place settlements or camps for migrants, the crime rate rises sharply. For example: around the refugee camp in Malakas (near Athens) it is difficult to find a cottage or a house that has not yet been robbed. According to the owners of the dachas, they have already given up and removed everything of value from the houses, and now they are waiting for the camp residents to finally scatter around the country or go abroad (more often the latter). After that, they will return.

PS I will keep silent about the problems with the gypsies, as this is an even bigger problem. Worse another. Since most of them are citizens and voters, none of the parties will touch them before the elections (and after), since almost 400,000 voters (out of more than 600 thousand gypsies in Greece) are a powerful and well-organized force that can significantly affect the outcome of the election.
