pensioners "under the microscope"

The average basic pension was €773.98 and the average supplementary pension was €199.15 in April 2023.

According to the official data of the “ΗΛΙΟΣ” report on pensions for April, the number of pensioners reached 2,792,825 people, while 40,887 new (basic and supplementary) pensions were granted in the previous month. In total, 4,518,667 pensions were paid in April 2023, of which 2,792,825 are basic, 1,300,968 additional and 424,874 dividends. The total pension budget amounted to 2.502 billion euros.

Total retrospective (retrospective) disbursements to new pensioners amounted to €169,983, while total expenses were €13,917 million for 40,887 pensions. Accordingly, the total budget for retrospective payments to new pensioners (with a change in the pension decision) amounted to 6.157 million euros.

The retroactive pensions for new pensioners (with a provisional decision to retire) are 346,476 euros, and the total budget is 60,999.89 euros.

Majority size basic pensions range from 500-1000 eurosand a significant percentage of citizens (37.2%) have more than 1,000 euros. Pensioners aged 61 to 70 receive the highest pensions. To calculate the average income, pensions of all categories (old age, death, disability) that a pensioner can receive are summed up.

27.6% of pensioners are over 81, 35.6% are aged 71 to 80, 33.9% are aged 51 to 70, and only 1.3% are pensioners under 25. Pensioners aged 61 to 70 receive the highest pensions. According to the report, the majority of male pensioners are aged 71-75 (20.2%), and female pensioners (17.1% of the total) are aged 71-75.
