Coast Guard rescues two boys from sinking pedal boat

The Coast Guard rescued two young men who were in danger when the pedal boat began to sink.

The Port Authority of Stylida received urgent information that a pedal boat driven by two citizens had begun to sink. The emergency center (Κέντρο Άμεσης Δράσης της Δ.Α. Φθιώτιδας) rushed to help the guys who were far enough from the coast, in the sea zone “MARINI” Fthiotida. The local contingency plan was immediately put into action. A Λ.Σ.-ΕΛ.ΑΚΤ. police patrol car drove to the scene, and a rescue boat was also involved.

A water bike was found half-flooded in the area of ​​Ag. Yiannis Stylidas and his two passengers, aged 30 and 21, were rescued by a patrol boat and brought safely to the port of Stylida.

In the summer period of heat and holidays, every city dweller tends to nature to swim and spend time on the beach, by the pond. But often the usual bathing turns into a tragedy. The main reason for the occurrence of accidents on the water can be called the lack of a safety culture among the population and ignorance of the simplest rules of behavior on the water. Knowledge of the rules and the ability to provide first aid to the victim are necessary for every vacationer.

RULES OF SAFE BEHAVIOR ON THE WATER

1. You should swim in specially equipped places.

2. Do not enter the water while intoxicated. Alcohol blocks normal brain activity.

3. You should stay in the water for no more than 10-15 minutes. When hypothermia occurs, convulsions may occur.

4. With convulsions, pricking with any sharp object (pin, sliver, sharp stone, etc.) helps.

5. Do not swim close to sailing ships. Near them there is a current that can tighten under the propeller.

6. It is dangerous to jump or dive into the water in an unknown place – you can hit your head on the ground, a snag, a pile, etc., break your neck vertebrae, lose consciousness and die.

7. Avoid rough water play. You can’t swim under swimmers, “drown”, give false signals for help, etc.

8. Do not leave babies near the water. They can stumble, fall, choke on water even where it is shallow.

9. Swim very carefully air mattresses and toys. Wind or current can carry them far from the coast, and a wave can overwhelm them. In addition, air can escape from them, which can lead to loss of buoyancy.

10. Extremely carefully use rowing and motor boats, water bicycles and motorcycles in areas of beaches, in public places intended for swimming.

11. Do not swim in the water area where boats and jet skis move. You risk being harmed by the actions of an unruly or inattentive motorboat owner.
