Father of 550 children urged to stop

41-year-old Dutchman Jonathan is suspected of having fathered more than 500 children. He could be fined €100,000 if he continues to be a sperm donor.

After it turned out in 2017 that he had become the father of more than a hundred children, he was forbidden to remain a donor and apply to reproductive clinics in the Netherlands about this. However, the man continued his activities, selling the “material” online and in foreign clinics. The Hague court ordered him to provide a list of all the clinics that used his services and order them to destroy his sperm.

The recommendations of Dutch experts state that a donor cannot be the father of more than 25 children in 12 families. The restrictions are related to reducing the likelihood of siblings who are unaware of their relationship and can have children to start a family.

The judges said the man has helped deliver between 550 and 600 children since he began donating sperm in 2007. More than 100 children born with the help of this man were born in Dutch clinics and other private medical institutions. However, Jonathan also donated his material to a Danish clinic, which sent it to addresses in various countries.

The donor was sued by a foundation protecting the rights of such children, and the mother of one child, allegedly conceived from his sperm, writes Air Force. Court spokesman Geert-Mark Smelt says:

“The thing is, this kinship network with hundreds of half-brothers and half-sisters is just too big.”
