A Swiss businessman paid an astronomical amount, according to the Athens real estate market, to buy an apartment in the center of the Greek capital.
The apartment in question – a 320 square meter penthouse – is located in the center of Athens, in the area bounded by Herodou Attikou, Rigilis and Stisichorou streets. It was sold for 18 million euros, which was one of the most expensive transactions that have taken place in recent years in the residential real estate sector in Athens, according to the newspaper “Kathimerini”.
The buyer of the “pearl” is a Swiss businessman who paid about 56,000 euros per square meter to purchase an old penthouse. The apartment offers an unobstructed view of Kallimarmaro, Lycabettus, the Acropolis and the sea. The new owner will carry out the renovations, while he will stay in the apartment for several months, the rest of the time it will be closed, according to “Kathimerini”.
According to Georgios Petras, Managing Director of Engel & Völkers, the deal took about 10 months to complete. “It shows the interest that exists in Athens. Traditionally buyers of this “powerful caliber” are looking for luxury properties in the respective markets of Zurich and New York. Unlike Athens, Mykonos has one or two deals of this size per year,” Petras told the newspaper.
