Processions "Immortal Regiment" on Victory Day will not be

Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Elena Tsunaeva, co-chair of the central headquarters of the All-Russian public movement “Immortal Regiment of Russia”, said that there will be no traditional procession “Immortal Regiment” in Russia in 2023:

“[Шествия по улицам городов] will not be. By this time, a number of regions had already refused due to the threat, [в частности] Republic of Crimea. This is still a single indivisible story – the Immortal Regiment procession. If somewhere people do not have this opportunity, let’s use other options.

She, according to TASS, suggested that those who wish to post photos of their veteran relatives on social networks, on clothes and on a car, on the movement’s website:

“The emphasis is on having portraits next to us, around us all day long. <…> I am sure that the holiday will be wonderful.”

The press service of the movement said that they decided to “get away from the format of one street and one square” and invite the Russians to honor the memory of the heroes “throughout the day.” Earlier it was reported that the action was canceled in several border regions.

Victory Day in the capital and other cities of Russia will be held in a mixed format, reported edition of RIA Novosti. The head of the central headquarters of the All-Russian public movement “Volunteers of Victory”, deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Olga Zanko said that face-to-face and online events “dedicated to the memory of the Great Patriotic War”, including the action “Immortal Regiment”, will be held in the regions.

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that alternative formats of the “Immortal Regiment” will definitely be widely demanded by citizens, but he cannot yet say about the president’s participation in these formats:

“Here I can’t say about the president, but the fact that these alternative formats will be widely demanded by citizens is unequivocal.”

In 2022, the Immortal Regiment procession took place in various cities of Russia. Then in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin joined the marchers.
