From Corfu to Athens… with acute appendicitis

A ten-year-old child had to be taken to Athens with an attack of acute appendicitis due to the lack of a pediatric surgeon in Corfu.

On Saturday morning, the parents of a 10-year-old child faced a huge problem – there was no one to operate on him. According to the boy’s grandmother, for two days the grandson complained of stomach pains, and on Saturday they became unbearable. At the hospital where the patient was brought, the doctors diagnosed appendicitis, requiring surgical intervention. But there was no one to do the operation. The woman tells quotes newsbeast.gr:

“Unfortunately, the situation in the hospital all these years has been tragic. The child was admitted in terrible pain. The director of the clinic and his assistant were impeccable. They told us that a pediatric surgeon should see him, but “he is not there.” The director said that he “has the goodwill to operate on the child” if we want to. At this point, my daughter became worried. In the end, we made the decision to send the child in the middle of the night to Athens.”
