Easter holidays: big demand for travel, top destinations

The full resumption of Greek travel demand is holding at 2019 levels both domestically and internationally, in each case three times higher than in 2022, recorded for this year’s Easter tourist season by Greek travel agencies.

Complete freedom to travel after several years of the pandemic inspires Greeks to “get on the road” again and visit places inside and outside the country, despite the cost of living crisis and the negative impact accidents in Tempiwhich seems to be waning over time, according to FedHatta, the country’s federation of travel agencies.

FedHATTA President Lysander Tsilidis said: “We are ready for a roaring Easter tourism season which is showing signs of a recovery in demand from Greek travelers. The Greek market and public sentiment are showing stability with great room for further growth. This is an important contribution to Greek destinations and is helping to stimulate local economy.”

FedHatta Chairman added that “Greek ‘package tourism’ market takes travelers to their favorite destinations around the world, taking full responsibility for their trip and offering all kinds of convenience and comfort.”

Most travel agencies call easter traffic satisfactoryand is expected to peak as Holy Week approaches. This year, Corfu, which is known for its traditional Easter customs, again became the leader.

In the domestic market, Nafplio, Kastoria, Pieria, Messinia, Xylokastro, Meteora, Porto Heli, Zagorochoria and island destinations such as Corfu, Rhodes, Patmos, Crete, Zakynthos, Chios, Mytilini, Syros, Skyros and Kitera are in the greatest demand.

In terms of overseas destinations, Greeks prefer European destinations such as Italy, the Iberian Peninsula, Southern France, Paris, Budapest, Strasbourg, Cyprus, Vienna, Bruges and America. In addition, Jerusalem, Constantinople and Egypt, thanks to their patriarchates, again become a pole of attraction for the Greeks in the context of religious pilgrimage.

In general, today the majority of orders are for trips abroad, in the ratio of 7 (abroad) to 3 (Greece). FedHATTA invites Greek travelers to take advantage of the benefits offered by Greek travel agencies for their travels during the Easter period as there are many offers and a wide range of travel products for every taste and budget.

An estimated four-day trip to Santorini starts from 450 euros per person, not including, of course, Easter dishes. In Corfu, a four-day organized trip will cost a little more – about 600 euros.
