Disability benefits: increase by 8%, who will be affected by the innovation

Tomorrow, April 10, an amendment to increase disability benefits will be submitted to the Greek Parliament GUARDIANSHIP by 8%. It is expected to affect 188,000 citizens.

The changes were announced last week by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Labor Minister Kostis Hatzidakis confirmed this morning that the amendment will be submitted to Parliament tomorrow and the benefit increase will take effect immediately.

Who will receive the increased allowance

OPEKA manages a total of ten benefits and programs for people with disabilities who will be affected by the innovation. Among them:

  1. Mobility allowance for people with disabilities.
  2. Financial assistance program for people with severe disabilities.
  3. Financial assistance program for people with severe mental retardation.
  4. Financial support program for paraplegics and amputees who are uninsured and insured in the state.
  5. Financial assistance program for deaf and hard of hearing people.
  6. Financial assistance program for people with visual impairments.
  7. Economic support program for people with cerebral palsy.
  8. Food allowance for kidney patients, heart transplant patients, liver transplant patients, etc.
  9. Support for people with congenital hemolytic anemia or congenital hemorrhagic predisposition, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
  10. Financial support for sick and recovered patients with Hansen’s disease and their families.

Personal assistant for people with disabilities

This year, the “Personal Assistant” program came into force, under which the state provides disabled people with up to 1,663 euros per month, in addition to the allowances and other benefits they already receive.

Already the first 176 participants who have passed the assessment can enter their codes on a special platform from today prosopikosvoithos.gov.gr in order to:

  • see the result of the decision of the special evaluation commission;
  • see the OPECA decision, according to which they will receive a certain amount every month, which they can use to pay for a personal assistant;
  • find a personal assistant of your choice in the register of personal assistants;
  • conclude an agreement with the selected personal assistant, after which the paid provision of services will begin.

As of today, 520 people have already applied for the status of a personal assistant, and their number is increasing every day. More than 240 applicants have completed special training, which is provided free of charge by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, in order to be included in the register of personal assistants. The others are expected to complete their training soon.
