Stop bullying: a platform for direct complaints from parents and students will open

After Easter, a platform for complaints from parents and students will be available. A new case of bullying in Arsakio has reopened the debate on how such wild incidents can be prevented.

Alexandros Koptsis, Secretary General of the Ministry of Education for Primary, Secondary and Special Education, spoke about platformwhere complaints of bullying by parents and students will be immediately filed.

Students will be able to log into the platform either anonymously or by providing their last name. At the same time, the parents of the victim can enter only by last name and record a case of violence. The complaint is automatically registered in the “initiative group of the school” (Ομάδα Δράσης του σχολείου) and at the same time in 116 divisions of the “initiative group of the Education Administration (Ομάδα Δράσης σε κάθε ϔιεύθυνσηα Είηα)”.

“We will start working right after Easter. And at present, there is no such platform so far, ”said the general secretary γενικός γραμματέας πρωτοβμιας, δευτεροβμιας εκπαίδευσης αγωγής του τουργείου παιδείς. Mr. Koptsis also stressed the difficulties involved in dealing with cases of violence and the need for a holistic approach in order to make significant decisions.

“We have to balance the two main pillars, the pedagogical side and the application of consequences, which is not at all easy and takes time. The measures we have taken so far, such as modernizing the services of psychologists, school counselors, informing young people about the topic, introducing a special lesson into the curricula, as well as passing a new law on violence (and punishment for the corresponding crime), are all what we have done for our part lately,” the expert says.

Regarding how many social workers and child psychologists have been hired in the last four years, Alexandros Koptsis stated: “Their number has doubled. There are psychologists in almost every school in the country, or entirely in ΕΠΑΛ.”
