Donald Trump is in police custody and is being processed at the Manhattan District Attorney’s office ahead of his arraignment. He will officially become the first president to face criminal charges when he goes to trial following the historic indictment.
The indictment is expected to be announced on Tuesday, providing the first public information on specific charges. The publication notes that Trump will face more than 30 charges related to business fraud, as part of an investigation into a case of cash payments “under the guise” made to an adult film actress in 2016.
Trump’s legal team said the former president would plead not guilty and would contest the charges. The ex-president, who vowed to continue his campaign in 2024, is due to return to Florida after being indicted and speak in Mar-a-Lago tonight.
News outlets will not be allowed to broadcast Tuesday’s indictment, the judge ruled Monday night, denying a request from several media organizations, including CNN.
