Josep Borrell, Head of the Foreign Service EUwrote on his Twitter page that the European Union will respond with new sanctions on Russia’s deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus.
How writes BB.LV, referring to his words, the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus will be “an escalation and a threat to European security.” The diplomat emphasizes that Minsk “still can stop it.”
Earlier about plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus informed Russian President Vladimir Putin in an interview with Russia 24 TV channel. He noted that the construction of the storage facility would be completed on July 1 and stressed that the weapons would be placed “without violating the obligations under the START” (Treaty on Strategic Offensive Arms). According to him, the reason for this step was the announcement of the UK about supplies Ukraine ammunition with depleted uranium.
Following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statement that Moscow and Minsk had agreed to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on Belarusian soil, the US Department of Defense said there were no signs that Russia was preparing to use nuclear weapons. writes Reuters
