Electric filling stations: 500 million euros for the installation of systems

The Ministry of Environment and Energy is setting a clear timetable for the start of tenders for the installation of electric vehicle charging points.

In particular, according to the provision included in the comprehensive bill being discussed these days in Parliament, municipalities must complete the procedure by December 31, 2023.

In fact, in the case of open tenders for the right to develop, manage and operate public electric vehicle charging points, municipalities are required to use special documents that will be prepared by the Autonomous Department of Electromobility ΥΠΕΝ). However, the regulation also leaves… a window open, since it provides that the deadline for the start of trading can be extended by a joint decision of the Ministers of the Environment and Energy

The purpose of the innovation plan is to install about 11,000 public charging stations at strategic locations in urban and suburban areas, the total investment will exceed 500 million euros. The points will be located on 328 Electric Vehicle Charging Plans (EVPs) drawn up by municipalities.

At the same time, the €120 million Charging Everywhere (Φορτίζω παντού) program, which is also the Recovery Fund milestone for the first quarter of 2023, is expected to be implemented.

Its goal is to strengthen private entities (such as supermarkets, gas stations, shopping malls, etc.) to install about 8,000 public fast and ultra-fast charging points for electric vehicles. From a study commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior, it has been estimated that more than 13,000 public charging stations will be needed by 2025, 100,000 by 2030, and the required investment will exceed 700 million euros.

The number of chargers in the public highway network is a critical parameter for the purchase of electric vehicles by citizens.
