A young Cypriot is arrested for trying to steal stones and marble from the Acropolis as… a souvenir.
A 26-year-old man from Cyprus, who tried to take stones and pieces of marble from the Acropolis as souvenirs, was handcuffed by the police of the relevant department, reports iefimerida.gr.
The man was seen backpacking “booty” in the protected area of the archaeological site at 21:50 on Sunday night (5/3). A Cypriot with a knife separated fragments of ancient sights. The security guard noticed this and called the police.
The foreigner was arrested. He was prosecuted for violating the law on the protection of antiquities.
