€40 electricity subsidy for March

According to a statement made this morning by Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas, the population will receive a household electricity subsidy of 40 euros per megawatt hour in March.

In other words, the amount of the subsidy remains at the level of February, and the bills announced by suppliers, in most cases, are somewhat lower than in February. This means that the final prices that consumers will pay in March will be correspondingly slightly lower than in February.

In particular, the subsidies for March are:

Household consumers: for monthly consumption up to 500 kWh, the subsidy will be 40 euros/MWh. This category includes 90% of households in Greece. The same subsidy will be given to persons with a monthly consumption of more than 500 kWh, provided that they reduce their average daily energy consumption by 15% compared to the previous year. For households included in the social household tariff (KOT), the subsidy is 84 EUR/MWh.

For farmers, the subsidy is 40 EUR/MWh. For energy-intensive industries (including steel, cement, aluminum, ceramics, textiles, paper, glass, etc.), the minister emphasized that a community-based assistance program is planned, which will include companies that have not entered into invoices with fixed contracts for more than 12 months, will not enter into bilateral physical supply contracts with power generators, and will experience a 40% or more decline in operating margins due to rising electricity prices.

Tariffs were slightly below the February level ΔΕΗ for electricity for March, which were announced late on Monday evening.

Tariffs are:

  • With consumption up to 500 kilowatt-hours, 19.5 cents per kilowatt-hour (19.9 in February).
  • For higher consumption 20.7 cents per kilowatt hour (21.1 last month)
  • Night rate: 15.4 cents per kilowatt-hour (15.8 in February).
