Today, on Clean Monday, kites are traditionally launched into the sky in the mountains, parks and beaches of Greece.
Many Athenians went out into nature right in the morning. Families usually prefer to visit certain areas of the capital on this day, which are traditionally filled with people every year. Under perfect weather conditions in Attica, the sky was filled with kites of every color and style. Many families went to the mountains, hills, parks and fields to observe the custom.
It is noted that this year Kulumu (Κούλουμα) is celebrated in a different way, since Mass events allowed for the first time since the coronavirus pandemicand the municipalities have long organized the details of today’s events.
Many people took meatless meals in plastic containers with them to the picnic and they did the right thing. On the hill of Philopappou, the municipality of Athens organized a traditional festival with Gogo Tsamba (Γωγώ Τσαμπά). Quite a lot of people also gathered in the Antonis Tritsis park in the capital. And some decided to breathe in the fresh sea air and launched kites into the sky right from the beach.
