The ill-fated Stockholm-Thessaloniki flight

Passengers on a Ryanair flight from Stockholm to Thessaloniki were hit hard Friday afternoon when one of the passengers became ill on board the airliner.

The pilot began to look for an airport over Poland for an emergency landing, but the weather was bad. In particular, low cloudiness did not allow landing in Gdansk, and as a result, the liner landed in Warsaw.

As a passenger of the flight told Voria.gr, it all started about 1.5 hours after the flight departed from Stockholm. “The woman sitting in the middle of the plane suddenly jumped up and started screaming. She was beside herself, asking for help in Greek, repeating:” what happened. The passenger continued to scream, everyone fussed.

The crew immediately mobilized and requested medical attention. On the flight, there were three doctors who immediately rushed to the woman, and then they needed a defibrillator. Then the pilot said over the speakerphone that the plane had to make an emergency landing, ”said the witness, a passenger on the ill-fated flight.

The plane made 2 attempts to land at the nearest airport – in Gdansk. However, the weather was unstable due to low cloud cover. Two unsuccessful landing attempts were made. After consultation with the Polish authorities, the flight continued on its way to Warsaw, but even there the first landing attempt was unsuccessful. And only on the second attempt, the pilot managed to land the plane in Warsaw, where the authorities organized a large-scale operation to receive a sick passenger. Doctors and nurses entered the plane and put her on a stretcher, while an ambulance took her to the hospital.

Finally, the plane, which took off from Stockholm at 18:25, arrived in Thessaloniki only around midnight.
