Barbara closed schools, shops and courts

Given the adverse weather conditions, the Greek authorities are announcing their intervention in the schedule of enterprises in order to avoid any problems due to bad weather.

To limit the movement of citizens as much as possible, a number of services and shops will remain closed on Monday. Also schools of all levels of education, kindergartens and nurseries will be closed. Around 13:15 on Sunday, a new weather warning message was sent from number 112 to the people of Attica. The authorities have decided not to open schools in the entire region of Attica. In particular, the decision concerns all public and private, primary and secondary educational institutions in Attica. For the same reason, courses will be conducted remotely.

Shops in north and northeast Attica will also remain closed on Monday 6 February. The General Secretariat of Trade and Consumer Protection of the Ministry of Development and Investment is informing consumers that throughout North and North East Attica, including the northern suburbs of Athens, commercial stores will be closed on Monday due to the expected heavy snowfall. In a Twitter post, Development Minister Adonis Georgiadis notes:

“Due to extreme weather events, we are taking preventive protective measures for retailers. Follow the instructions of the authorities so that everything goes well and no one is endangered or inconvenienced. Thank you”.

Solely to meet the urgent needs of consumers, in exceptional cases will be able to work until 18:00 on Monday 6 February 2023:

  • pharmacies;

  • shops selling tools and snow chains for cars.

“Citizens are asked to come to stores, which will remain open in exceptional cases, with extreme caution and only in case of emergency“.
