The onset of Cyclone Barbara began in Attica with snow falling in the northern suburbs in the morning.

The first snow fell in the northern part of Athens. These are the districts: Rodopoli, Dionysos, Drosia, Agios Stefanos, Anixi – Stamata, Parnita, Vilia, and Ippokratio Politias (Varibobi). Bad weather has affected most of the country since morning, although no serious problems have been reported so far. Snow has already covered many parts of the country – the northern suburbs and Evia.

According to meteorologist Clearchos Marousakis, the cyclone is expected to develop rapidly. In fact, the “picture of bad weather” will change every two hours.

Attica

  • At 11-13h. heavy snow is expected in the northern suburbs, from Kifisia and above.
  • Within two hours 14-16 hours snowfall in the northern suburbs.
  • 16-18: strong cyclone manifestation, wind, snow.
  • 18-22h: strong manifestations of bad weather throughout Attica.
  • 22:00 to morning: Snow is expected in many areas, even in the center of Athens.

For the country as a whole:

  • Sunday 11:00 – Snow in Thessaly, Peloponnese, Northern Cyclades and Eastern Steria (including Attica).
  • Sunday 14:00 – Heavy snowfall from the height of Magnesia and south. Snowfall continues in Attica.
  • Sunday 17:00 – Snowfall continues in Attica, Evia, Peloponnese, Northern Cyclades. The first snowflakes will fall in Crete.
  • Sunday 20:00 – Snowfall in the northern suburbs of Attica.
  • Monday 02:00 – Snow in Attica and Evia.
  • Monday 05:00 – Snow in Attica and Evia.
  • Monday 08:00 – Snow in the northern suburbs of Attica, Evia, Sporades and Northern Cyclades.
  • Monday 11:00 – Snow in Attica and Evia.
  • Monday 14:00 – Snow in Attica, Evia, North Aegean, North Cyclades and Crete.
  • Monday 17:00 – Snow in Attica, Evia, Cyclades, Sporades, Crete.
  • Monday 20:00 – Snow in Attica, Evia, areas of Thessaly, Cyclades.
  • Monday 23:00 – Snow in the northern suburbs of Attica, Evia, Cyclades and Crete.

About 30 cm snow depth in Attica

It will be cold until Friday. Very low air temperatures (for Greece) will remain almost until the end of next week.
