The Guild of Bakers of Athens, Suburbs and Surroundings (SAAPP), and the Municipality of Peristeri, as part of the New Year’s events for the public, once again baked the biggest royal pie this year on December 30, 2022.
The mayor of Peristeri, Andreas Pahaturidis, in the presence of thousands of citizens, cut the vasilopita, and of course, everyone got a piece. Welcoming remarks were made by Attica Regional Governor Georgios Patoulis and SAAPP President Panagiotis Sahinidis.
The royal pie (vasilopita) was designed for 50,000 servings, weighed 5 tons and contained 200 fluri (coins), corresponding to the issuance of New Year’s gifts. The pie was baked in dozens of artisan bakeries. Culinary experts set about creating a royal pie at dawn on December 30 of this year.
Ingredients for making vasilopita: 4000 kg of flour, 2000 kg of butter, 1000 kg of sugar, 500 kg of powdered sugar, 50 kg of baking powder, 2000 eggs, 1500 oranges, 50 kg of cognac, 4 boxes of vanilla.
