A man with a stroke was taken to the hospital for 26 hours

A resident of Crete suffered a stroke, an Air Force helicopter was used to deliver him to the hospital, but he got to the doctors only after 26 (!) Hours.

Due to the inaccessibility of the village where the 82-year-old Cretan lives, the help of an Air Force helicopter was required. According to information flashnews.gr, the incident took place in Agia Roumeli Sfakia. The old man’s fellow villagers informed his relatives living in Chania about his illness, and they immediately began to look for the possibility of sending him to the hospital (there is no access road to the village).

Neither the boat nor the helicopter could get to the right place due to weather conditions. Relatives overcame a 3-hour walk to get to the settlement. Nectaria Tsatsimaki, the old man’s daughter, says that there is no doctor in the village.

Relatives are outraged by the delay in the arrival of the helicopter:

“Is it possible that in 2022 people are dying because of this, I can’t understand. There is a helipad there, why the helicopter hasn’t taken off since yesterday…”

The daughter complains that at 6:30 am on Monday morning, the captain of a ship operating in the south of Chania wanted to go for the sick person, but “the port authorities did not allow the port to leave the ship, because the helicopter was agreed, and it was already 11 o’clock, and the helicopter had not yet arrived , while he could leave Agia Roumeli at 6:30.

Finally, the Air Force helicopter landed on the helipad of the Chania hospital at 11:15 am, and then transferred the patient for the necessary medical tests and hospitalization to the clinic.
