EE: One of four ‘universal services’ offices in Athens to support vulnerable households

The process of creating offices has begun, the activities of which will be aimed at energy modernization of the homes of vulnerable European households.

Laboratory of Mining Technologies and Ecology of the National Technological University of Metsovo, Center for Renewable Sources and Energy Saving (KAPE), as well as the Consumer Union “Quality of Life” cooperate within the framework of the European program REVERTER, which is a massive housing renovation plan to reduce the vulnerability of households caught in the grip of the energy crisis. Funded by the “good cause” program LIFE, and aims to help reduce electricity costs and improve the quality of life of Europeans through energy upgrades of their homes.

The first meeting was held in Athens partners from 12 countries: Bulgaria, Latvia, Portugal, Spain and Greece. The project aims to ensure that in cooperation and with the participation of all stakeholders develop and test nine innovations in four European countries to mitigate (eliminate) the phenomenon of “energy failure”.

The difficult situation in which the Europeans find themselves is associated with high energy prices, reduced household incomes and low energy efficiency of buildings. In this way Vulnerable households will be able to find a “patron” to help them join subsidized energy efficiency programs in their homes, providing all the appropriate guidance, support and assistance.

The project will be piloted in Athens, Bresovo, Riga and Coimbra, cities that are characterized by different climatic and socio-economic conditions (eg age and size of the building stock, share of ownership, percentage of single parent families, income distribution, habits and beliefs of residents).
