In his opening remarks at the Asia Engagement and Confidence Building Buildings (CICA) meeting in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, Russian President Vladimir Putin predicted a bleak future for the West and its people, saying that the “golden billion” waiting for “famine and upheaval on a large scale.”

“Russia is in favor of revising the principles of the world financial system,” he added. In particular, he stated that “the current global financial system has allowed the “golden billion” on the planet to live at the expense of others”, and stressed the risks of “massive famine and shocks in the face of volatile energy and food prices in the world.”

By the “golden billion” the Russian president means the inhabitants of the collective West, who live more than twice as long – in terms of luxury and wealth, and life expectancy – than the rest of the planet’s inhabitants.

With regard to a financial system favorable to Western countries, he is referring to the U.S. dollar system, on which international transactions are carried out (although they are now declining), and on the basis of which Americans can impose economic sanctions against anyone they consider a threat to their geopolitical power. in short, against anyone they don’t like.

Claiming that Asia is a region where new centers of power are emerging, Putin argued that the continent plays an important role in the transition to a multipolar world order. “It is necessary to remove all barriers in the world’s supply chains,” he added. Putin also stressed his country’s efforts to build a system of equal and indivisible security.

The Russian leader arrived in Astana on Wednesday and is expected to hold a series of trilateral and bilateral talks. Putin will also attend a meeting of the Council of Heads of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and a Russia-Central Asia summit in the capital of Kazakhstan.
