“Germany and its partners will continue to supply weapons to Ukraine and provide economic and humanitarian assistance for as long as necessary,” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said today.
Germany “will strongly support Ukraine, together with its friends and partners – financially, economically, humanitarian aid, as well as weapons such as heavy artillery, modern air defense systems and anti-aircraft tanks: as much as necessary to prevent Russia’s monstrous aggression,” – he said, speaking at a conference on “progressive” management in Berlin.
The chancellor bluntly condemned Russia’s policy, accusing the Russian president and his supporters of more than just starting a war against Ukraine: “They also view this war as part of a larger crusade against liberal democracy, against a rules-based international order, against freedom and progress, against our way of life and what Vladimir Putin calls the “collective West”, meaning all of us.”
Olaf Scholz also mentioned the struggle of the Ukrainians, stressing that “the brave men and women of Ukraine bear the brunt of the war, they are the ones who are killed and maimed, raped and displaced.”
