Do Russians want peace with Ukraine – poll results

The Russian media presented the latest data from a sociological survey of citizens, which showed that 65% of Russians want a peace treaty with Ukraine.

They support the decision to sign a peace agreement and stop hostilities in the neighboring country. The data was presented by the publication “Kommersant” with reference to Russian Field, the sociological service that conducted the survey:

“According to the poll, 65% of Russians would approve of Vladimir Putin’s decision to stop the military operation in Ukraine and sign a peace agreement.”

Although, at the same time, 60% of respondents would also support the intention of the Russian president to launch a “new attack on Kyiv.” 52% of respondents were in favor of continuing the military operation, 38% were in favor of moving to peace negotiations.

The authors of the sociological study note that from mid-March to the end of July, the ratio of opponents and supporters of the war remained practically the same. Military actions in Ukraine are supported by 69% of respondents, 23% are categorically against them, and 8% of respondents either refused to answer the question or found it difficult to answer.

59% of Russians believe that the “special operation” has dragged on. Another 28% of survey participants hold the opposite opinion. Slightly less than a third of respondents (30%) predict that the war will last more than 12 months. Approximately 18% expect it to be completed within a year. 20% of participants hope for the end of hostilities within six months, and only 13% of those polled are optimists – they believe that everything will end in one to three months.

Interestingly, more than half of Russian men (62%) are not ready to take part in hostilities in Ukraine personally (if they have such an opportunity), only 29% of respondents declared their “desire to participate.” Those who want to fight more in the age category from 45 to 59 years (37%), among young men 18-29 years old, there are only 23%.

Citizens are not too eager to support the military financially: 67% are completely unprepared to spend their own funds to support the war, and 12% agree, but not more than 1 thousand rubles a month.

The study involved 1609 respondents in eight federal districts. The survey was conducted on July 28-31 by telephone. The authors warn him that the results on some questions about what is happening in Ukraine may not coincide with the real situation. They note that “Russians are afraid to talk about this topic”, in particular, “refusals have increased, sincerity has decreased.”

Recall: in mid-March, 71% of Russians supported the war with Ukraine. At the end of March, the decision to conduct Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine was supported by 74% of Russian citizens.

How reliable are these polls? air force believes that it largely depends on how the question was formulated. In addition, not all people give a frank answer to the question, and not everyone has a formed opinion. It will be formed during the interview under the influence of the interviewer – depending on how he talks, where he pushes. This opinion can be contradictory – something a person supports, something not.

It is important to know these figures, but do not blindly believe them, you need to understand what is behind them. There are different opinions, we are trying to somehow catch them, often these opinions are formed in the course of the survey itself. But these polls have a right to exist, it would be much worse if they weren’t there, sums up the Air Force.
