Israel: Collapsed pool bottom swallows two people

As a result of yesterday’s collapse of the bottom in a private pool in Israel, a man died, the second was saved.

At the time of the tragedy, the villa was hosting a party with about fifty guests. After damage to the integrity of the bottom, a funnel formed in the pool, into which two men were sucked in by a stream of water, reports The Times of Israel.

The incident occurred in the village of Karmei Yosef, in the central region of Israel. The cause of the collapse was ground subsidence, experts say. The canvas bottom burst, and water rushed into the opened hole from a height of seven meters.

Two people were carried away by the current. A 34-year-old man was able to get out on his own, with minor injuries he was taken to the hospital. The second man, a thirteen-year-old, was carried into an underground tunnel and died. Rescuers found it only four hours later – the threat of a secondary collapse prevented efficiency.

The owners of the villa have been arrested. As it turned out, they did not have permission to build a swimming pool in the yard due to the specifics of the soil.
