Intermediate spring discounts 2022 – the last time?

In just a few days, the intermediate sales season begins in Greece – the spring period of 2022.

According to the Athens Chamber of Commerce, intermediate discounts (as required by law) are valid for 15 calendar days, starting on May 1st and ending on May 15th.

We remind you that according to the decision of the Minister of Labor, the May Day holiday this year is postponed to Monday, May 2. Therefore, according to the Athens Chamber of Commerce, intermediate discounts will begin on Tuesday 3 May.

During the sales season, in addition to indicating the old and new, reduced prices of goods and services sold at a discount, it is also allowed to indicate the commercial message of the percentage of the discount.

During intermediate discounts there is one Sunday, May 8th. The Athens Chamber of Commerce recalls that, as stipulated by the circular of the Ministry of Development and Investment, Shops can open at their discretion on Sunday May 8thwith suggested opening hours from 11:00 to 18:00, reports iefimerida.gr.

Kafounis: “These will be the last intermediate discounts”

The Athens Chamber of Commerce has repeatedly opposed intermediate discounts. On the occasion of the start of sales and holidays, the president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce, Stavros Kafounis, made the following statement: “Expressing the demand of all entrepreneurs, as well as consumer representatives, I hope this will be the last time that the obsolete institution of intermediate discounts is used, which creates distortions in the trading market and does not allow lowering the initial prices for all types of goods since the beginning of the year“.
