The leader of the LDPR faction, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, died after a long and prolonged illness, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said on his Telegram channel.
The deputies honored the memory of the deceased with a minute of silence and announced a break in the meeting.
According to Russian media, a couple of days before his death, in the state of Zhirinovsky growing negative trendhad a high temperature. The politician was on a ventilator, he continued to receive antibiotic therapy. Puffiness of the lower extremities was recorded, the doctors tried to find a source of bacteria, but it did not work. He developed multiple organ failure.
Zhirinovsky, 75, was hospitalized on February 2. The Ministry of Health reported that he was in a stable condition, the deputy’s colleagues later announced an improvement in his health. At the end of March, Izvestia wrote that the politician’s health had deteriorated sharply, but the Liberal Democratic Party denied this information.

A few minutes later, Volodin wrote in his Telegram channel that Zhirinovsky was alive. Pronyushkin also apologized for the disseminated information and said that “those involved in the publication will be held accountable.” The Chairman of the State Duma invited the senator to resign.
Details of the politician’s diagnosis were not officially disclosed. Kommersant wrote that on February 2, Zhirinovsky was diagnosed with developing pneumonia, Mash – that against the background of COVID-19, the LDPR leader was diagnosed with 50-75% of the lungs, and he developed bilateral pneumonia. Kommersant’s interlocutors said that the deputy’s health worsened at the end of January, but because of the anti-vaccination campaigners, he decided to hide the fact of the disease. Vladimir Zhirinovsky was born in Alma-Ata in 1946. He graduated from secondary school No. 25 named after. Dzerzhinsky, then moved to Moscow, where in 1964-1970. studied at the Institute of Oriental Languages at Moscow State University. M. V. Lomonosov (since 1972 – the Institute of Asian and African Countries) with a degree in Turkish Language and Literature. In 1965-1967. studied at the University of Marxism-Leninism at the Faculty of International Relations. Zhirinovsky’s political career began in 1988, when he took part in the founding congress of the Democratic Union.
Together with Vladimir Bogachev, he founded the Liberal Democratic Party of the USSR, which was officially registered in 1991. The following year, the party was renamed the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR). Zhirinovsky was a deputy of the State Duma of all convocations, starting from December 12, 1993.
