Rhodes hotel owner goes on hunger strike over exorbitant energy bills

A 30-year-old hotel owner on the island of Rhodes went on a hunger strike near the Public Energy Company (ΔΕΗ) due to exorbitant energy bills that she is unable to pay or repay in installments.

In an interview with the local newspaperRhodiacs» A woman who owns a small hotel in downtown Rhodes said she was unable to pay “inflated” electricity bills. When she approached the company for an installment plan, they cited a known energy issue and told her they couldn’t do it.

The last bill she received in February was for 5,062 euros, and for January, 4,199 euros.

In the video, the woman says that the total amount for electricity consumption, including other payments, was 6,700 euros, plus 5,300 euros for the so-called “adjustment clause” that electricity suppliers add if the price per MWh is higher than in the original contract with the subscriber/customer. This is despite the fact that they added a higher price to the bill.

The woman said that she had reached a dead end and had to protest. “I don’t know what else to do, where else to go,” the hotelier told reporters.

Meanwhile, another hotelier in Rhodes complained to the publication that the electricity bill is 993 euros in the summer and has skyrocketed to 3,821 euros in the winter. 281 euros were deducted from the account due to the state subsidy and the ΔΕΗ discount.

Unfortunately, the hotel owners in Rhodes did not heed the Minister of Development, who said, I’m tired of whining and suffering about price increasesand continue to get on his nerves. Maybe shoot them so they don’t suffer?
