Ice: More than a hundred victims. Calls to avoid travel

The number of citizens affected by ice, with various injuries, incl. with fractures and bruises that ended up in the emergency departments of emergency hospitals, only on January 26, exceeded one hundred people, reports EKAB.

According to the EKAB (Ambulance), which takes accident victims to hospitals with numerous traffic problems due to how many and uncleaned roads, “there is a catastrophic increase in the number of fractures and bruises in emergency hospitals.”

EKAB warns that due to frosts that occur in a number of areas of the prefecture of Attica and other prefectures of the country, ice has appeared after heavy snowfall due to Cyclone Elpida: “We urge all citizens to avoid unnecessary trips.”

Frosts, especially in the early morning and night, dramatically increase the risk of falls and fractures, which is especially dangerous in old age, and the consequences of this can be very serious, reports EKAB.

The necessary movement must be carried out only in appropriate clothing and footwear, taking into account the slippery sidewalk, it is better for motorcyclists and other owners of two-wheeled vehicles to switch to 4-wheeled transport (a brief preventive instruction on frosty movement can be found at ABEC website .

It is noted that due to the current conditions, it is very important to use 166 for ambulance only in emergency cases, when it is necessary to take the injured or sick person to the nearest health department on duty, EKAB reports.

Rescuers, nurses and doctors of the AKAB are still on maximum alert, making superhuman efforts to cope with the current difficult situation, in cooperation with the forces of local institutions (regions and municipalities), the fire service and the police, on calls from citizens in need in emergency pre-medical care, as well as in transportation to the nearest medical facility.

Pedestrians:

Wear suitable shoes Do not walk in the early morning and at night Do not walk on shaded sections of roads and sidewalks (high probability of ice) It is recommended to bypass the metal covers of sewer manholes, as they are often covered with ice in cold weather. Be careful even on the sidewalk, because in ice the car can be brought from the road and into the pedestrian area. Mostly when ice people get injuries to the forearms and hands. During the fall, it is very important to group up and try to fall gently. You can not fall on straight – outstretched arms or on your back (you can damage not only your back, but also your head). Pedestrians are advised to move along the sidewalks with extreme caution, bypass bare ice, look under their feet. You can only cross the road in places designated for this – at special pedestrian crossings of various types (however, this rule applies to any weather). You should be as careful and prudent as possible, look when crossing the road first to the left, then to the right. You should not run fast, because you can slip and fall. When walking, it is better to relax your legs and bend a little at the knees, while you need to step on the entire sole. When crossing the road through a land crossing, you should remove your headphones and hood to see around and hear the sounds of the street, which can warn of danger in time. Also, pedestrians are not recommended to keep their hands in their pockets, as this impairs the ability to maintain balance, as a result, there are more chances to fall, moreover, falling in this position increases the risk of serious injury when falling. At the slightest suspicion of an injury, you should immediately seek help from doctors at the emergency room!

Drivers:

Take extra care when driving in icy conditions Drive mostly during the day (after sunrise) Avoid early morning and night travel Drive carefully and avoid sudden changes in course and speed Always fasten your front and rear seat belts properly. Seat children in appropriate child seats. Check the correct operation of your car’s electrics and electronics (lighting, purifiers, sublimation and air conditioning system, etc.). Always have anti-skid chains in your car. Drive carefully and calmly to arrive and return safe and sound Before leaving, you should carefully inspect your car for serviceability (brakes and tires on tires in the first place). When approaching pedestrian crossings and locations of childcare facilities, the driver must definitely reduce the speed to a minimum. Drivers should keep a safe distance between other vehicles. With extreme caution, you should move on bridges and overpasses. Try to avoid risky maneuvers on the road to avoid accidents on slippery roads and protect yourself and other road users from injury. Also, in bad weather, it is recommended to refrain from traveling and moving long distances.

Motorcyclists:

Leave a feeling of freedom in your home and give preference to the warmth of your car
