Thessaloniki: “His death was sudden”

A 25-year-old young man has died at the Agios Dimitrios rehabilitation center for people with disabilities in Thessaloniki. Death occurred as a result of beating.

According to the ERT, no criminal proceedings have been initiated so far. The Social Welfare Center of Central Macedonia announced an administrative check in connection with his death. The statement reads:

“Everything stipulated by the law will be carried out with absolute transparency and rigor, with full respect for human life and dignity.”

According to the initial data, as reported by thestival.gr, the young man was beaten last Sunday while in a rehabilitation center for the disabled in Thessaloniki. According to the newspaper, the beating took place during a fight that took place between two patients of the institution. One of them was in an extremely agitated state.

According to APE-MPE, the 25-year-old man was taken to the Papanikolaou hospital 24 hours after the beating. On Tuesday, due to the deterioration of his condition due to the aftermath of the fight, the beaten patient died. Police sources say the hospital described the death as sudden, the Athens News Agency reported.

From the same source, it became known that the employee of the rehabilitation center who was caring for the two patients made no attempt to stop the fight. Vasiliki Naku, president of the Social Welfare Center of Central Macedonia, ordered an administrative review of the incident.

The body of the deceased man was handed over for autopsy to the forensic medical service of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
