When cyclone Balos leaves Athens

Cyclone “Balos”, which since yesterday morning hit the central part of Greece and directly on Athens, is in no hurry to leave Attica.

At the moment, its center is located south of the island of Ithaca and in the next day it will quickly move to central Greece and to Halkidiki, continuing to carry with it showers, thunderstorms and storms.

At about 13.00 there was a downpour in Elefsina, Aspropyrgos, Keratsini – Perama, as well as in the center of Athens. Soon after its start, water accumulation stopped traffic in both streams of Piraeus, from Petru Ralli to Hamosternas, and in the peripheral Aigaleo from the height of the refineries. The road was closed for about two hours, traffic resumed shortly after 14:30.

The winds are strong, south and south-west. A general relief of the phenomena in Attica is expected by Friday night. However, cyclone “Ballos” is affecting other parts of the country, especially Halkidiki, where the center of the cyclone will arrive tonight. Heavy rain is expected during the day in the islands of the eastern Aegean Sea as well as in western Crete.

The temperature in Athens is now around 20 ° C, and is expected to drop to 17 ° C in the evening. During the next day in the capital, short-term rains and thunderstorms are possible, which will stop by midnight.
