A second case of rare blood thrombosis and low platelet counts following the still recommended AstraZeneca vaccine was announced yesterday by health authorities in Canada.
The patient is a citizen of the province of Alberta in western Canada and has received the AstraZeneca vaccine produced in India (Serum Institute of India). “This man has been treated and is recovering,” the authorities explained. As a reminder, the first case of thrombosis was announced on Tuesday. This is a Quebec woman who received the same vaccine.
The authorities still recommend the AstraZeneca vaccine
Blood clots formed after the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine are carefully studied by specialists.
At the same time, the Canadian authorities “continue to believe that the benefits of the vaccine (…) to protect the population from the coronavirus pandemic outweigh the potential risks.”
However, as the competent authorities have announced, they will continue to closely monitor the use of all vaccines and evaluate any new human health problems arising from their use.
