Forested Property, Unlocking Transmission – What Owners Should Know

The ministry's new decision is intended to resolve the situation with currently blocked real estate located on forested areasallowing you to transfer them with just a few clicks of the mouse on your computer.

The procedure will resemble a request to correct an obvious error, i.e. the property owner, by going to a special section on the ktimatologio.gr website, will be able to attach the necessary documents that will be requested and submit a request for unblocking.

According to information mass mediathe goal is to allow these citizens to get rid of bureaucracy with a single application and continue developing their property (transfer, parental benefits, etc.).

As Deputy Minister of Digital Governance Konstantinos Kyranakis explained, “There are many cases where owners have been allocating land for forestry for many years, which affects their property.. On the basis of this act the state declared the right of ownership. The well-known “objection committees” came into being, and when they came to defend the interests of the owner against the state, this led to act on deregistration of real estate, and when the land registry completed its work on the census of the plots, the property in question could not be returned to its true owner. IN As a result, the owner went to court, where he was acquitted, but this is complete absurdity,” explains the deputy minister.

Forest property unblocking procedure

But what is the procedure that the owner must follow? With a few clicks on his computer, he will be able to obtain the declassification of his land through an application. Once the bill is passed, a special section will appear on the Land Registry website through which he will be able to request a correction. More precisely the procedure will be similar to filing an application to correct an obvious error. The owner of the property, by going to the ktimatologio.gr website in a special section that will be created, will attach the necessary documents and submit a request for unblocking.

What happens with objections

Number of objections filed against the seizure “forest real estate” (Δασικά ακίνητα) has exceeded 330,000, and a large number of objections and requests for obvious errors remain pending. A total of 334,938 objections have been filed, covering more than 2.6 million hectares, which corresponds to 1.9% of the country's territory.

The largest number of objections to forest maps were filed in Attica (28,552), Chania (20,818), Ioannina (17,305), Laconia (15,478), followed by Larissa, Messinia and Aitoloakarnania. As explained by the Secretary General of Forestry of the Ministry of Environment, Stathis Stathopoulos, “After Easter, objection committees are rapidly reviewing cases across the country, so progress is being made and obvious errors will be resolved according to priorities.”

The Secretary General recalled that until Easter the Bar Associations had refrained from action and after Easter, with the exception of one or two cases in the districts that continued, the Bar “de-hiked” the issue and the Objection Committees returned to full operation.
