The grandson of former Italian Prime Minister Alcide De Gasperi presented an ancient vase to Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni.
It has belonged to the Italian former prime minister since 1953, when it was given to him by the Greek government, and was now handed over to Lina Mendoni at a special ceremony at the Greek embassy in Rome.
The vase, which is in excellent condition, was given by Greek Prime Minister Alexander Papagos to his Italian counterpart Alcide De Gasperi during his visit to Greece, as a sign of friendship following Italy's decision to return the Dodecanese to Greece.
Mrs Mendoni thanked Paolo Catti de Gasperi and presented him with a replica of the goddess Artemis from the Parthenon Zoophoros, which was kept in the Acropolis Museum. She also thanked the Greek Ambassador to Rome, Eleni Sourani, and her colleagues for their efforts in organizing the momentous handover ceremony.
Today and tomorrow, September 20 and 21, the Greek Minister of Culture is taking part in the conference “The Big Seven of Culture”, which is taking place in Naples. In addition to the G7 countries, Greece, Brazil and India have been invited to participate in the conference.
