Athenians enjoy the empty streets of the city

The Athenians have gone to the islands, to the villages and, of course, to nearby seaside resorts. And those who stayed for one reason or another are happy to take a break from the endless crowds.

Judging by the empty city center, it seems that a large number of Athenians have left the capital to become vacationers. Of course, there is some traffic in the coastal areas, from Alimos to Vouliagmeni, Loutsa and Zuberi. These are those who stayed in the city, going out of town for a quick swim and returning back. According to the survey, the following remained in the capital:

  • those who cannot leave work,
  • whose vacation has not yet begun,
  • those who believe that the cost of accommodation and transport to the islands has reached a high level in contrast to low wages,
  • those who, on principle, do not take holidays in August and take vacations at other times of the year.

Thus, the center of Athens at the beginning of August seems deserted. Most of the people on the streets are tourists. The streets of Panepistimiou, Vasilissis Sofias, Stadiou and Vas. Amalias Avenue are “dead”. We have seen similar images before at Easter, the first holiday of spring, when the city's residents leave the capital en masse.

However, Athenians, who under normal circumstances might spend up to an hour getting to work or a meeting place for a walk, seem to enjoy the parking spaces under their house, empty streets and nearby places to relax on the beach. Athens is expected to become even more deserted as August 15 approaches, when the traditional holiday season begins.
