Greece's Education Ministry announced on Thursday that it will hire 10,000 teachers in all disciplines, at all levels of schooling, by the start of the 2024-2025 school year, in a bid to improve the quality of public education and promote inclusiveness.
The 4,451 appointments will cover the vacancies created by the departure of permanent teachers based on the fiscal rule of one recruitment per departure. According to the relevant ministries, after the end of the 2023-2024 academic year, the number of permanent teachers and special teaching staff members who have left will be 4,050, and the existing vacancies due to the departure of permanent teaching staff during the 2022-2023 academic year will be 401.
In addition, 5,549 new positions are planned. The total cost of 110 million euros will be covered exclusively by national resources that have so far been allocated to the recruitment of substitute teachers.
