Stefanos Kasselakis, speaking at a meeting of the party’s Central Committee, announced SYRIZA’s intention to present a proposal for a law on the separation of church and state.
How writes CNN Greece, the head of the opposition party intends to continue the contacts he has begun with church leaders after meetings with the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Jerome. The SYRIZA President will meet with Archbishop Eugene of Crete, considered one of the most progressive voices in the Church.
Kasselakis’ associates say there was a very good atmosphere at his meeting with Hieronymos on Saturday, where the controversial issue of marriage equality was also raised.
Mr Kasselakis said Syriza’s legislative initiative would soon unfold and he would present the 2018 proposal for the separation of state and church.
