Two Polish citizens, 24 and 20 years old, were arrested yesterday afternoon by members of the Salamis Security Department while they were filming a military installation on the island (specifically a naval base).
The young people had a drone, a professional camera and mobile phones with them. All devices were confiscated by authorities and sent to the police criminal investigation department for examination.
According to ERT, the two young men handed over their equipment without complaint and told police that they did not know that their actions were prohibited and that they were tourists.
According to local publication salamina-press, the Poles were spotted shortly after 18:00 on New Year’s Eve in the military zone, and the police were immediately notified. Subsequently, the intelligence agencies were also informed to investigate the possibility of espionage, and the case opened against the Poles concerns violation of security measures in the protected areas of the forts.
