President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Greece and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for their “loyalty to the Ukrainian-Greek partnership”:
“Grateful to Greece for joining the G7 declaration on support for Ukraine. Greece became the 14th country to support “security guarantees” for Ukraine. We work together on Ukraine’s path to NATO.”
The G7 Declaration in Support of Ukraine is a framework document for future “security guarantees”.
Recall that earlier Athens and Kyiv held direct negotiations with a view to concluding a bilateral agreement at the level of ministries of foreign affairs, the result of which would be the obligation of Greece to provide Ukraine with “security guarantees” in several sectors, and not just in the defense sphere.
Kyiv’s defense requests include air defense, armored vehicles, artillery, fighter aircraft, and ammunition. The parties discussed the restoration of Ukraine after the war, as well as its inclusion in the Western European economic framework and energy security.
