Michael Roth, head of the Bundestag foreign policy committee from the Social Democratic Party of Germany, proposed an option for the early admission of Ukraine to NATO.
Considering that a full-scale war is going on there, the politician proposed to accept the regions of Ukraine controlled by Kyiv into the alliance, writes BB.LV. He called for a “more broad interpretation” of the terms of Ukraine’s membership in NATO and stressed that he would not make a requirement for joining the “ideal world” alliance. “Then Article 5 (on collective defence) will apply to them as well. The obligation to provide assistance will not yet be extended to other regions of Ukraine.”
Otherwise, the politician noted, the issue of the country’s entry into NATO will have to be postponed “until the second coming.”
