This summer, prices for Greek salad (χωριάτικη σαλάτα) skyrocketed, surpassing even the price in expensive restaurants in London and New York in Greece.
For example, in London, in one of the most luxurious Greek restaurants, it costs 23.40 euros, while in the USA it costs only 16 euros. At the same time, in Mykonos, a salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, bell peppers, olives and feta costs €26, and in another restaurant on the Island of the Winds it costs €16. Given that these are the prices of Mykonos, Athens is also not far behind.
At a restaurant overlooking the Acropolis, a Greek salad with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, feta, peppers, onions, olives, breadcrumbs, oregano and extra virgin olive oil costs 19 euros. In Santorini, a Greek salad costs between 13 and 12.50 euros. On Plaka, the favorite dish of foreigners is a little cheaper. A salad of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, olives with feta, oregano and extra virgin olive oil costs 11.50 euros, and in a nearby restaurant a little cheaper – 11.00 euros.
In the famous restaurant Thisio, a salad with cherry tomatoes, barrel-aged feta cheese, croutons, Cretan cucumber, olives and onions costs 14 euros. In Monastiraki, a Greek salad costs 7.80 euros. Normal price, at which the dish is served in neighboring establishments.
Prices, as consumers say, have risen by 20-30%, meaning that a salad that costs 9 euros today was just 7 euros recently.
