In the presence of many hundreds of Athenians and guests of the city, a Christmas tree was lit on Syntagma Square. The spruce, which arrived from Karpenisi, was lit by 40,000 light bulbs, a 5 km long garland was decorated with hundreds of balls and ornaments.

Christmas tree arrival
The event was attended by more than 25 mayors from all areas of the Athens metropolis, who sent their own message, along with the mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, who took part in lighting the Christmas tree.
Singer Tamta put on her own show, performing a number of songs before and after the lighting ceremony. The event was presented by hosts Fotis Sergulopoulos and Jenny Melita.
