Supermarkets fined for violating food safety laws "family basket"

The Market Control Service has imposed fines on supermarkets for violating the law on the rate of return on the prices of products included in the consumer basket, Development and Investment Minister Adonis Georgiadis said on Thursday.

He added that these are fines below the threshold of 50,000 euros and, according to the law, the name of the company was not disclosed. The minister said that the general data of the e-Consumer platform will be released next week and inflation is showing signs of declining. “Consumers will be able to see this in the price of products on supermarket shelves,” he added.

As we reported earlier, from December 14, the Ministry of Development plans to introduce the so-called “Christmas family basket”, in respect of which it will be decided which products will be included in it (for setting the festive table). It will last for about two to three weeks. The basket will contain items such as meats and sweets, with consideration being given to adding non-alcoholic beverages to the basket. According to the information, offers are expected from suppliers for turkey, as well as for sweets, such as melomakarona, kurabye, etc.

At the same time, also expected “basket” with products targeted at consumers with special nutritional needs. It will include about 15 products that are consumed by people with health problems, such as diabetics (and not only).
