Greek Foreign Ministry promises to protect the Greek diaspora in Ukraine

The head of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, said that the security of the Greek diaspora in Ukraine is in the focus of the government’s attention.

At a press conference on Friday, after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the head of the Greek Foreign Ministry, as reported greekreporterstated:

Of particular importance for Greece at the moment is the issue of the large Greek diaspora in Ukraine, in particular, in Mariupol, which is located near the line of contact. He visited a special monitoring mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), met with the leadership of the Federation of Greek Societies of Ukraine, with the mayor of the city of Mariupol, as well as with leaders and activists of Greek societies in Ukraine, and talked with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. As the head of the Greek Foreign Ministry noted, “Greece is showing particular interest in Ukraine’s issues, due to the significant number of Greek emigrants in the wider area of ​​Mariupol.” The Minister also noted that Greeks living there face the challenges of daily life, including health care issues.
